Early Life and Education

Metropolitan Chrysostomos (Mahairiotis) was born on 4 June 1938 in the Palaiometarch Province of Nicosia, British Cyprus.

He graduated from the Commercial School and the Pancyprian High School. In 1951, he was accepted as a cadet monk in the Holy Monastery of Our Lady of Mahaira. He continued his education by entering the Law School of the University of Athens in 1962, graduating in 1966.

Clerical Career

In 1955, Chrysostomos was ordained a minister. In 1962, he entered the Theological School of the University of Athens, graduating in 1970. On June 7, 1970, he was ordained presbyter, after which he was elevated to the rank of Archimandrite and Protekdik of the Maher Monastery.

On October 24, 1973, Chrysostomos was unanimously elected Metropolitan of Kitia, Ipertim, and Exarch of Larnaca and Levkara. His episcopal consecration took place on October 26, 1973.
