Early Life and Education

Michalis Attalides was born on February 1, 1979. However, this date appears to be incorrect as it is inconsistent with his educational background.

After graduating from the London School of Economics (B.Sc. Econ 1963) and later studying at Princeton University in the United States, he received an MA (MA 1965) and, in 1966, a PhD in Sociology (Ph.D. 1975).

Career

He has represented the Republic of Cyprus as Ambassador to various capitals, including Paris, London, and the European Union in Brussels.

Attalides was also the Permanent Delegate (EC), Head of Mission of the Republic of Cyprus to the European Communities (ECSC, EAEC) from 1995 to 1998. He served as Ambassador of Cyprus to France from 1991 to 1995.

Following his retirement from civil service, he has held various academic positions, including:

* Dean of the School of Humanities, Social Sciences and Law at Intercollege
* Lecturer in Sociology at the University of Leicester
* Counterpart to the UNESCO Expert at the Cyprus Social Research Centre
* Guest lecturer at the Free University of Berlin

Current Position

Today, Michalis Attalides is the Rector (also referred to as Dean) at the University of Nicosia in Nicosia, Cyprus.
