When he returned to Cyprus he was arrested and imprisoned by the English because of his involvement with AKEL which they had outlawed. He was imprisoned in Decelia, where he managed to escape after an organized plan of party leadership.
He was provincial secretary of AKEL Pafos (1942–1943), AKEL Larnaca and AKEL Limassol (1950–1989). For more than forty years he was a member of the Central Committee and the Political Office of AKEL.
