"National Men's Track Championship 1980"

--- CONTENT ---
The 66th Greek men's track championship 1980 was held from 26 to 28 September at the "Makario" Stadium, Nicosia, Cyprus, along with the corresponding women's national track championship 1980. G.S. Evagoras Famagusta was the champion for the first time in the history of the event.

Time of the games

There was limited participation of athletes from Greece for economic reasons, since the championship was held in Cyprus. Of course, there was a large Cypriot presence, which was also evident in the results, where Cypriot clubs dominated. The national marathon championship was held separately, on 2 April, on the classical route, alongside the international marathon, which was last held in this form, i.e. alongside the events for the Olympic day. On the same day, the 20.000m walk championship took place at the Capital Stadium of Thessaloniki and its surroundings. The decathlon championship, on 12–13 April, in Kavala, along with the equivalent of teenagers and the women-young pentathlon, had also become special. All other events were held during the three days of the Panhellenic Games.

Cyprus clubs appeared strong in the games, as expected. In the battle of the score prevailed the refugee club G.S. Evagoras Famagusta hosted in Limassol, with 8 points difference from the second GS Pagypria.
