--- CONTENT ---
Nikos V. Hammereras (1913 – 17 September 1989) was a Greek writer, folklore writer, author, poet, journalist and screenwriter.
Biographical data
He was born in Apeiranthos, Naxos and studied law at the University of Athens and theatre at the school of the Greek Stage Koun-Devari. Before dealing with the literature and folklore of his place, he began his career as an actor, in the troupes of Marika Kotopouli and Charles Kun. From his student years he was also involved in journalism, working with newspapers and magazines, and finally taking over editor-in-chief of the journal Greek Creation of Spiros Melas. During the occupation he took an active part in the national resistance, on the side of the EAM and was therefore honoured after the release with the Marshal Alexander's Medal of Valor "for his contribution to the liberation of Europe". He was also the songwriter of the anthem of the Naxos EAM. He was an associate of E.I.R. and later E.I.R.T. He supported the liberation struggle of Cyprus (1955–1959) by writing articles and poems, and presenting radio shows. For this action he was honored by Archbishop Makarios, when he became the first president of the Republic of Cyprus.
Nikos Forgeras was an older brother of the historic Basil Hammerera.
