Ottoman Empire

History

The Ottoman Empire was a Turkish empire that existed for 624 years, from the 13th century until the beginning of the 20th century. It extended from southeastern Europe to North Africa and the Arabian Peninsula.

### Formation and Expansion
The Ottoman Empire emerged in the 13th century and became one of the main political forces in the 15th century. At its peak, it was a major threat to European countries until it began to decline after the First World War.

Government

The government of the Ottoman Empire was headed by the Sultan, also known as the Fadisha. The Sultan held both secular and religious authority, although there was a distinction between the role of the Sultan and the Khalifa (Caliph), who had spiritual significance.

### Structure
The Ottoman Sultan was the ruler of the empire, except for its first three rulers, called Bey: The First Ethman, their first light, and the first pirate. The Sultan's authority was defined in the Quran as a degree of a Muslim ruler with religious and moral significance.

Decline and Legacy

After the First World War, the Ottoman Empire broke out and took its place to modern Turkey. The empire had been abandoned by the Roman Empire from 1517 to 1984, but it continued to exist until the beginning of the 20th century.

### Official Names
The Ottoman Empire was also known as the High Ottoman State (Turkish: Dövlât-i Aliyye-i Osmâniyye), or the Ottoman Caliphate. In modern Turkish, it is referred to as Osmanlı İmparatorluğu or Osmanlı Devleti.

Symbolism and Legacy

The Ottoman Empire's legacy can be seen in its symbolism, including the use of the symbol ( Osmanli-nisini.svg ) which represents the empire.
