Location and Geography
Pachna (, ) is a village located in the Limassol Province of Cyprus. It is situated on the southern slopes of the Troodos Mountains at an altitude of approximately 670 meters.
The village is part of the Krasochori geographical region and borders several other villages: Agios Amvrosios to the east, Vouni to the northeast, Kissousa to the north, Malia to the northwest, Dora to the west, Anogyra to the southwest, Prastio (Avdimou) to the south.
History and Etymology
The name "Pachna" is derived from the fact that the early settlement resembled a trough. The Venetians referred to the village as Padena, which was derived from the word Patena or Patina, meaning Fante or Tau. Another theory suggests that the village's name comes from the ancient Greek word Pachni, denoting the coolness of cold nights.
Population
According to the 2011 census, Pachna had a population of 865 inhabitants. In 2001, the statistical service of the Republic of Cyprus reported a population of 967 inhabitants.
