"Paliggenesis Cup"

The Paligenesia Cup was a special cup event of the Cyprus Football Federation with which it honored the 150 years since the beginning of the Greek Revolution of 1821. Its name comes from the national Paligenesia. It was held only once, in 1971. Olympiacos Nicosia was the winner.

Operating system
The Paliggenesis Cup was attended by the 12 league teams First-class 1970–71, the 12 teams of the Second-class championship 1970–71 and the 12 teams of the third-class championship 1970–71. Each team played only seven football players, with the right to two changes per match. The games were conducted with the system of simple exclusion. The games lasted 30 minutes. In case the match ended tied, a ten-minute extension followed. If at the end of the extension the result was still tied, he followed a penalty. Each team performed a 5 penalty. If the two teams achieved the same penalty number, a draw was made to determine the team that would pass the next round.

Phase I
In Phase I 36 groups were divided into three regional groups: Larnaca/Ammochostou (16 teams) and Nicosia/Keryneia (12 teams) and Limassol/Pafos (8 teams). In each group the teams were drawn to couples giving each other matches.

Larnaca/Ammochostos Group
The matches of the Larnaca/Ammochostos group took place on 7 April 1971 at the GSE stage. Since more teams than the other two participated in this group, 4 teams were qualified in the second phase.

The eight qualifying teams were drawn to four pairs. Winners from each pair qualified for the final phase of the Palligenesia Cup.

Nicosia/Keryneia Group
The matches of the Nicosia/Keryneia group took place on 10 April 1971 at the old GSP stadium. Of the 12 group teams two qualified for the second phase.

The eight qualifying teams were drawn to four pairs.

The four qualifying teams were drawn to two pairs. Winners from each pair qualified for the final phase of the Palligenesia Cup.

Limassol/Pafos Group
The Limassol/Pafos group matches took place on 10 April 1971 at the GSA stadium. Of the group's 8 teams two qualified for the second phase.

The four qualifying teams were drawn to two pairs. Winners from each pair qualified for the final phase of the Palligenesia Cup.

2 Apollo qualified after draw.

Final phase
The final phase of the event took place on 25 April 1971 in the old GSP.
