Pancyprian Union of Chemists

History

The Pancyprian Union of Chemists (PUC) was founded in 1960, coinciding with the establishment of the Republic of Cyprus.

Structure and Governance

The Management Board of the PUC consists of nine members, elected every two years by the General Assembly of the PUC. This governing body is responsible for overseeing the activities and operations of the organization.

Membership and Publications

As of 2023 (no specific date mentioned in sources), the PUC has over 550 members. The organization publishes a quarterly magazine, "Chemical News" (also known as "Chemica Nea" in Greek), which is distributed to its members and approximately one hundred additional subscribers throughout Cyprus and Greece.

Objectives

The Pancyprian Union of Chemists aims to promote chemistry education and research within Cyprus, while also representing Cypriot chemists internationally. To achieve these goals, the PUC:

* Protects and regulates the Cypriot chemical profession through the Chemists' Registration Council
* Promotes information exchange between chemists across the country
* Participates in an advisory capacity on several committees within the public sector

Activities

The PUC engages in various activities to fulfill its objectives, including publishing a journal, organizing events and conferences, and providing a platform for Cypriot chemists to share their research and expertise.
