Dama (Dama) is a genus of ruminant mammals belonging to the family Cervidae with a unique species of platoni (Dama dama), which has white dots in the body, relatively palamoid horns in males, found in Europe and the Middle East, has been introduced in North America, Peru, Patagonia, South Africa, Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Bioko, Sao Tome, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mayotte, Réunion, Seychelles, Comoros, Cape Verde, Cyprus and Falkland, in Australia, Tasmania and New Zealand. In Greece it is only found in Rhodes, although it has also been introduced in Limnos. In addition to classical brown coloration there are also melanistic animals, as well as leucistic-not albino. It also belongs to the subfamily of the genuine deer (Cervinae) and includes two subspecies:
Subspecies D. d. mesopotamica (Mesopotamia deer), is found in the provinces of Huzistan and Mazantaran, Iran, on a small island in Lake Urmia, northwestern Iran, and in some parts of Iraq.

The subspecies D. d. dama (platoni), is found in Europe.
