Lyubov Petrovna Radina (1838, St. Petersburg – March 9, 1917, Petrograd) was a ballet artist of the imperial troupe.
Biography
Lyubov Radina was born in St. Petersburg in the family of the dramatic actor of the St. Petersburg branch of the Imperial Theatres P. D. Radina on February 14, 1838. The older sister Sophia Petrovna Radina (1830-1870), was also a ballerina, a characteristic dancer, left the stage at the age of 22.
Lyubov Petrovna from childhood was surrounded by an artistic environment. Like many children from artistic families, she also saw herself only on stage. She entered the St. Petersburg Theatre School, ballet department. Among her teachers were famous French dancers who taught in Russia, Pierre Frederick Malavergne (by the stage name Frederick), E. Huge.
After graduation, she was accepted into the St. Petersburg Imperial Ballet Company, successfully debuting in 1855 in the main part of the ballet "Armida", replacing Fanny Cherrito, who shone in this role.
She worked on the stage of the Imperial Theatre for thirty years, from 1855 to 1885.
She immediately gained fame and approval of theatrical criticism as a classical dancer, and as a performer of facial roles. For ten years, 1870-1880, Lyubov Radina was the leading performer of characteristic dances. Criticism noted: “Outstanding success was in dances characteristic, requiring fire and passion, but differed in facial roles”, “Performed classical parts that required serious technique and mimic play... Critics also praised her performance in ballets.”
She finished her artistic career in 1885.
