Early Life and Family
Ramon III of Tripoli (1140–1187) was a member of the aristocracy in the Crusader Kingdom of Jerusalem. He was the son of Ramon II of Gallipoli, Count of Tripoli, and his wife, Hodierna of Jerusalem, who was also the sister of King Baldwin III of Jerusalem.
Succession to the Throne
Ramon's father, Ramon II, was killed by the al-Hašīšiyyūn sect in 1152. At the time, Ramon was only twelve years old. His mother, Hodierna, ruled as regent until Ramon reached the age of fifteen.
Reign
In 1152, Ramon III succeeded his father as Count of Tripoli and Prince of Galilee. He held this title for a long period, serving as a key figure in the Crusader Kingdom of Jerusalem during the reigns of Baldwin IV, Baldwin V, and Guy of Lusignan.
Relationship with the Kingdom of Jerusalem
