Etymology
The name of Rădăuți is derived from various sources. One theory suggests that it comes from the Slavic-influenced derivation of Rottacenum, a Roman garrison on the Siret. Another theory proposes that the city's name is related to its owner Radomir, which would have been the origin of the village of Radomirovți (Radovţi). A third etymological theory suggests that the Slavic word "rada" means "joy" or "consultation". Additionally, a local legend refers to Uța and her son Radu as possible sources for the city's name.
