Rebecca Welch
--- CONTENT ---
Rebecca Welch (born in England) is an international English football referee FIFA since 2015 who runs the English Football League.
In 2021, she became the first woman to be appointed to an English Football League party, when she was appointed to an English Football League Two party between Harrogate Town and Port Vale, which took place on the Wetherby Road of Harrogate on April 5.
Career
After working as an administrator of the National Health Service, Welch became a football referee in 2010, but continued to work in his NHS post until 2019. He had played football since he was very young and studied to be an arbitrator at the Durham County Football Association. Her first two games were female university games, followed by a Sunday League party in Sunderland, something she described as "a completely different fish pot" compared to university games.
During his career as referee, he has played games at FA Women's Super League and was referee at the Women's FA Cup finals of 2017 and 2020. He also served at FA Women's Community Shield in 2020. Since the National League 2018-19, he has arbitrated in several men's parties of the National League. In December 2020, he was added to the UEFA Women's elite list, joining other football officials to organize international parties, including Stéphanie Frappart of France and Bibiana Steinhaus of Germany.
Welch's appointment to the Harrogate Town and Port Vale party was announced by the English Football Association on March 30, 2021. The game went smoothly with Welch in an effective way. Port Vale won the game (2-0). Two players received yellow cards, but there was little dissent other than a vocal complaint from Connor Hall of Harrogate about a possible criminalization in the first half. The announcement made Welch the first woman to be appointed to an English Football League party, although not the first woman to be a party party. Amy Fearn was replaced for the last 20 minutes of a match between Coventry City and Nottingham Forest in February 2010 when the original referee was removed due to an injury.
On December 29, 2021, it was announced that Welch would be the first woman to set up a third round male FA Cup party. The party in question, between Birmingham City and Plymouth Argyle, was played on January 8, 2022.
