The Cultural Association Renaissance Deryneia is a Cypriot sports association based in Dereneia, Famagusta Province. Today he maintains football and football segments of men and women, and also deals with artistic and spiritual activities.
Establishment
The Renaissance was founded in 1920 on the initiative of the teacher of Deryneia Eleftherios James Montaño and other residents named the Reading "Omonia". At that time illiteracy was great. This teacher, the only teacher of the village, procured the only weekly newspaper of the time, Eleftheria, from which he read at night excerpts to the cafe patrons, who spread them the following day and to the rest of the inhabitants. More and more residents were interested and thus Eleftherios James Montaños considered it necessary to establish a reading room for adults. For this reason, the "Omonia" Reading Centre was established. The aim of the reading room was the education, proper discipline and healthy employment of its members. Besides newspapers, the teacher also read literary books.
Gradually other activities such as theatre performances, exhibitions, anniversary celebrations with programs of folk poetry, music and dance, lectures and discussions, athletic activities with track, football and football matches etc.
At the start of the EECA action in 1955, the English declared several clubs illegal, including the "Omonia" Reading Room. After 4 months, with the same members and with the same statute, the union is granted a license to establish and operate the union with only a change in name. The new name was a Cultural Renaissance Association.
Insignia and colors
The union emblem is shield with the rising sun and the 1920 date, the club's founding date. As colors he uses green and white.
Football
The Renaissance joined the COP in 1972 and competed the same year in the third division. He has won the second-class championship twice while having 7 entries in the First-class.
The football team's seat is the privately owned 1800 spectator football stadium, the Deryneia Renaissance Stadium, which was built with voluntary work by club friends in 1974. Unique exceptions are the 2011-12 and 2016-17 periods when she used the Marcos Tasos Stadium because her stage did not meet the criteria for conducting first-class matches.
Men's Football
The Renaissance union (as the Reading "Omonia") created a petospheric team from 1937–38. Although there were no serious opponents then, the sport was particularly popular in the area. The first field of the team was the courtyard of the Reading Room. In 1949 the first games were held on an organized basis, the First Official Provincial Petosphere Championship with the Reading "Omonia" crowned champion
