Romania's nesting population is small and counts between 500- 1,500 nesting pairs. A specimen of this species was recently observed in the Republic of Moldova near the lake in Horești, Ialoveni district on 11 May 2019.
It has a length of 16- 17 cm and a weight of 19- 29 g. The maximum longevity is 8-9 years. The sex is similar to the color of the plumage, but the female has a shorter tail than the male. It is recognized by the distinctive colour of the plumage.
