RIK 2

RIK 2 is the second television channel of the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation, broadcasting in three languages: Greek, Turkish, and English.

History

RIK 2 began broadcasting on Saturday, March 21, 1992. The channel was launched with the intention of serving as a link between the different communities living in Cyprus, promoting unity and understanding through its programming.

Programming Structure

The programming structure of RIK 2 is that of a generalist channel, but with more emphasis on youth programming, sports retransmissions, and community programming than on the first channel of Cypriot radio and television, RIK 1. The channel broadcasts news reports in Greek, Turkish, and English, as well as children's and sports programs in Greek.

Notable Programs

* **BIZ/WE**: A daily broadcast in Greek and Turkish addressing issues of interest to both Turkish and Greek Cypriots.
* **Euronews**: Broadcast from RIK 2, available in English with a five-hour rebroadcast starting at 4 a.m.
* **Biz/Eμεεγ**: Meaning "We" in Turkish and Greek, this program focuses on the daily lives of Cypriots in both communities.

Operations

RIK 2 operates 24 hours a day, with regular broadcasts from 9 a.m. to 1 a.m. The channel is owned and operated by Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation, one of three channels operated by the audiovisual group Société de radiodiffusion de Cyprus (RIK in Greek).

Languages

The primary language of RIK 2's programming is Greek, with significant portions also broadcast in Turkish and English.
