Rio Gallegos Logistics Support Base

The Logistics Support Base (BAL) "Río Gallegos" is a unit of the Argentine Army based in the "Río Gallegos" Army Garrison, Santa Cruz province. It depends on the command of the 11th Brigade, and serves the Army Guards "Comandante Luis Piedrauena," "Puerto Santa Cruz," "Río Gallegos" and "Rospentek."
Its personnel were part of a number of peace missions, including the Argentine Task Force in Cyprus, under the mandate of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP). Also at the Kuwait Logistics Company that deployed Argentina to that Asian country, as well as troops in Angola and Croatia. Since 2004, his men have also participated in the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) with the Argentine Joint Battalion.
History
On 1 January 1980, Arsenal Company 11 was created to support the emerging Infantry Brigade XI.
The Rio Gallegos Logistics Support Base was created on 30 November 1992 as a result of the merger of the dissolved Arsenal Company 11, Intensification Company 11 and Health Company 11.
In 1995, he was the protagonist of Operation White Storm, supporting the community due to the great snow produced in the province of Santa Cruz at that time.
In 1996 the BAL Health Company was re-established as an independent element, then transformed into the Regional Military Hospital "Río Gallegos."
In 1998, it provided support to the staff who carried out the survey for the delimitation of the Continental Ice.
He closed the original VLEGA Gaucho vehicle carriage in 2009, according to the needs of the Blindado 11 Cavalry Exploration Squadron that had them in endowment until 2012.
In March 2010, he intervened with his media in the Operation Retrograde exercise developed in Santa Cruz, with the presence of the then Minister of Defense Nilda Garré.
In October 2014, he participated with his staff and media in the joint UNIDEF exercise, together with units of the XI Mechanical Brigade, personnel and media of the Marine Infantry Battalion No. 5 and A-4AR warplanes of the Argentine Air Force. This exercise was carried out in the Military Instruction Camp "General Adalid," in the town of Comandante Luis Piedrabuena, 230 km north of the city of Rio Gallegos.
In July 2015, as part of the Reequipment plan that faced the force, it received the M931A2 tractor trucks of American origin, with semi-trailers with capacity for 25 tons of national origin, significantly increasing its ability to transport combat vehicles to caterpillar.
It is now the southernmost logistics unit of the Argentine Army.
