Roman Society of Natural Sciences

The Roman Society of Natural Sciences (SRSN) is a non-profit scientific association founded in 1967, legally constituted in 1985 and as a pure research body since 1990. The agency promotes initiatives for the conservation of biodiversity and geodiversity, both at national and at extranational level, through scientific research, training and conferences as strictly prescribed by the statute.
The Roman Society of Natural Sciences, by decree n°63 of 06.07.2018 - Protocol: CMRC-2018-0158625-2018-10-08 10:49:55, was included in the Consultation of social actors:

Main activities and research lines
BioLazio project
It is proposed the research and dissemination of high level of all aspects of the biodiversity of Lazio, availing both of the results of monitoring on the field and of the consultation and enrichment of the Naturalistic Bibliographic Fund of Lazio, sector of the social library (see below).
Faune and Zoocenosis of the Near and Middle East: historical and ecological factors
This line, begun in 1982 and still in full swing, is proposed the study, on the field and in the laboratory, of the zoological material monitored in countries of the eastern Mediterranean area and up to the far east (from Albania to Iran) collected during missions and explorations in the territories of interest; the collected material is usually entrusted to specialists of specific taxonomic groups for the purpose of study and identification with the ultimate goal of redefinition of taxa
Marine and continental Malacofaunes; ecological characterization
The research units related to this line are intended to describe the malacological biodiversity of protected areas, terrestrial and marine, through the reasoned compilation of check-lists, as well as, parsimoniosa, collection of materials intended to enrich the zoological collections of the body. The territories of interest are located in the most diverse, continental, insular and marine areas; Sicily, Sardinia, Aegean islands, coastal areas of Greece and Turkey, Oman, Madagascar and French Polynesia; specific research units were formed to illustrate the diversity of species of areas of the Roman Campaign to the north-east of Rome and, more generally, of the entire Province of Rome.
Management of natural collections
The naturalistic collections preserved in the legal headquarters of the institution constitute an indisputable heritage of the institution as from its constituent acts. The materials derive from purchases, exchanges, donations and collections, the latter carried out in the course of numerous research campaigns carried out by the Italian and extra-Italian agency.
