Roman Stadium (Estadio Romano)
==========================The Roman Stadium (Spanish: Estadio Romano) is a municipal-owned football stadium located in the city of Mérida, Extremadura, Spain. It has a seating capacity for 14,537 spectators and serves as the home ground of Mérida AD.
### History
The stadium was first opened on May 24, 1953, with an initial capacity for 8,000 spectators. At that time, it featured an athletics track. In 1995, the stadium underwent a complete renovation, coinciding with the promotion of CP Mérida to the First Division.
### Renovations and Name Changes
The stadium was rebuilt in its entirety in 1995, on the occasion of CP Mérida's promotion to the First Division. It was initially renamed José Fouto Romano Stadium in September 1997, in honor of José Fouto Carvajal, the president who led the Merida Polysports Club from Third to First Division. However, after the team's disappearance at the end of 2000, it reverted back to its original name. In 2020, it was renamed again as the Roman Stadium (Estadio Romano).

The stadium has hosted several notable events, including:
* The Spain national team match against Estonia on September 9, 2009, which they won 3-0 in a qualifying match for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
* Two matches of the Spain national under-21 team: one against Cyprus in 1989 and another against Czechoslovakia in 1991.
