This item collects information about the Rosenborg Ballklub in the official competitions of the 2016 season.

Season
On December 11, 2015, the calendar for the 2016 championship was officially announced, with the Rosenborg starting the season on the weekend of 11-13 March 2016, visiting the Odd at Skagerak Arena. On 12 January 2016, the Rosenborg announced the jersey numbers for the new season.

On 1 April the first round of Norgesmesterskapet 2016 was drawn: the Rosenborg would visit the Åfjord. In the second round, the team was drawn against Byåsen. In the next round, the Rosenborg would visit the Nardo. After overcoming this obstacle, the Rosenborg imposed on Nest-Sotra, Tromsø and Bodø/Glimt, thus reaching the final against Kongsvinger.

On June 20, the UEFA made the draws for the second qualifying round at the 2016-2017 Champions League, to which the Rosenborg would take part: the Norwegian club would face the Swedes of IFK Norrköping. The Rosenborg is advanced in the next round thanks to a total success for 5-4, thus facing the opponent drawn on July 15, the APOEL Cypriots. The Cypriot compagine had the best, winning altogether for 3-1. The Rosenborg, after the elimination, was so repeated for the Europa League playoffs, as provided by the regulation.

Norwegian training was so drawn against Austria Vienna. From the double confrontation, the Rosenborg was defeated altogether for 4-2, thus greeting the Europa League and ending its European season campaign.

On 24 September, at the end of the 25th round of the championship in which the Rosenborg exceeded the Molde at the Aker Stadion with a score of 1-3, the team guaranteed the victory of the Eliteserien 2016 with five days ahead of the end of the season, winning this success for the 24th time in its history. On November 20, the team hit the double thanks to the victory in the Norgesmesterskapet final against Kongsvinger.

Mesh and sponsor
The technical sponsor for the 2016 season was Adidas, while the official sponsor was REMA 1000. The house uniform consists of a white shirt with black and gold inserts, black shorts and white socks. The transfer was instead composed of a black shirt with white and gold inserts, white shorts and black socks.
