Valery Grigorievich Rotar (July 12, 1947 – February 16, 2000) was a Moldovan businessman, a criminal authority known under the nicknames “Green” and “Grandfather”. From 1992 to 2000, the president of the football club "Constructorul" (Chisinau). He died in an assassination attempt.
Biography
Until 1991
Activities prior to 1991 are almost unknown. It is known that Rotary as a child attended one of the DYUSSH and played football in teams above his age category, but he refused to go to the masters team. For his inexperience as a player, he received from his teammates the unofficial nickname “Green”, which he was called by the media and figures of the criminal group in subsequent years, and he refused to call himself that. In total, Rotary served more than 15 years for certain crimes in the economic sphere, however, according to journalists, even before perestroika and recognition of Moldova’s independence, he stopped criminal activities and said that he did not want children to repeat his mistakes. Rotary himself was never called a thief in law, but he was respected among criminal authorities and became a mediator in various conflicts between clans in Chisinau. After the recognition of Moldovan independence, Rotar became a co-owner of a chain of restaurants and began to control the gambling business.
Structural
Until 1992 in Chisinau operated amateur team ZBI, which at best played for the championship of the Moldavian SSR or the Republic of Moldova. In 1992, Valery Rotar founded the football team "Constructorul" in Chisinau, which became the legal successor of ZBI - Valery Nikolaevich Gorokhov was appointed team chief. Rotary demanded that the team become a real club of the championship of Moldova, as a result of which he bought a residential building and made it a base for football players, opened a school for 120 children and allocated funds for the creation of women's and youth teams, believing that football should be more accessible to children, not crime. According to the recollections of the players, Valery Rotary after each failed match (even in the case of victory) for two hours arranged “flight analysis”, criticizing the players for insufficient return and lack of discipline, sometimes not even shy to throw obscene expressions. The players said that he could hit a person with the toe of a shoe, as a result of which he did not remove the shields, but he never used assault. At the same time, Rotary provided great material assistance to football players - distinguished athletes received cars, apartments and large sums of money.
Rotary began to invite players to the team - among them was Victor Komlyonok, who preferred to go to "Constructorul", where he was promised 1,000 Moldovan lei ($220) instead of 162 (35 US dollars) received in the double "Zimbru". "Constructorul" in the 1994/1995 season entered the National Division of Moldova on football - the highest level of the national championship - and the following season won the Cup of Moldova, defeating Tiligul Tiraspol with a score of 2: 1. The team received the right to play in the Cup Cup, becoming at the same time bronze
