The Royal Regiment or RR is one of the three major infantry regiments of the Canadian Armed Forces. In English, the soldiers of the Regiment are nicknamed "Vandoos" because of the pronunciation of "22" with an English accent; By extension, the Regiment was nicknamed "The Vandoos", in English. Among Francophones, the Regiment is often simply called "22" or ". It is the only regular infantry regiment entirely francophone in Canada.
The Regiment consists of five battalions, including two reserve battalions. In the Regular Force, the R22R has two mechanized infantry battalions and a light infantry battalion comprising a paratrooper company. Its headquarters are located at the Citadelle de Québec, but the bulk of its regular strength is confined to the Canadian Forces (CFB) Valcartier base near Quebec City, Quebec. The reserve battalions are located at Laval and Saint-Hyacinthe, respectively the Battalion. The Regiment battalions are in fact separate operational units that are part of the Canada Division with regular battalions within the Mechanized Brigade Group of Canada and reserve battalions within the Canadian Brigade Group. The total strength of the Regiment comprises more than and about . It is the largest military unit in Quebec and the largest Francophone unit in America.
Trained as French-speaking volunteers during the First World War under the name of "''', he received the title of "Royal" from King George V, who recognized the numerous acts of arms and the excellent service of his members. Today, he still wears the famous red uniform of British riflemen with the hair hat. R22R infantry have been involved in almost all conflicts and operations involving Canada since its inception.
Structure
The Royal Regiment consists of three regular battalions and two reserve battalions. Their combined numbers are more regular and about ; which makes it the largest regiment in Quebec.
