Early Life and Career
Rui Paulo Silva Júnior, commonly known as Rui Júnior or Joãozinho, is a retired Portuguese footballer born on June 16, 1975, in Angola.
Playing Career
Júnior played as a defender for several clubs, including Atlético Clube de Portugal, Alverca, Olympiakos Nicosia, AEL Limassol, and Estoril Praia. He was known for his speed, accurate crosses, and good stamina, often playing at left-back or left wing-back positions.
Career in Cyprus
In the 2007/2008 season, Júnior played for Doxa Katokopia, helping the team remain in the first division. He later joined Olympiakos Nicosia, where he was a consistent player, missing only two matches in two seasons.
Post-Playing Career
After retiring from playing, Júnior transitioned into a scouting and management role. He is currently the Director of Football at AEL Limassol, working alongside manager Pambos Christodoulou to strengthen the team with players from Portugal and its former colonies. Additionally, he serves as the head of scouting at Omonia Nicosia.
