Roula Mavronikola is a Greek Cypriot politician. He was a Member of Parliament in the Lefkosia Electoral District elected with the Social Democrats-EDC Movement in 2006-2016.
Biographical data
Roula Mavronikola was born in Karavas on 16 July 1957. He speaks, beyond Greek, English. He studied English literature at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. She worked as a unionist and is president of the Socialist Women's Movement.
She is married to Kyriakos Mavronikola and has two sons.
Path Policy
He was a founding member of the student race party. In 1981-1990 he was a member of the Socialist Youth ETEN. In 1990–1999 he was a member of the Provincial Committee of the Socialist Party EDEK Nicosia-Keryneia. In addition, she was an organizational secretary of the Socialist Women's Movement in 1987–1999 and its president since 1998. In 1990 he became a member of the Central Committee of the EDEK while in 1999 he became a member of the Civil Office of the movement. In 2000 he became responsible for the Thematic Equality of Family and Child of the EDEK and a member of the European Socialist Party's Equal Opportunities Committee. In 2005 he became a member of the board of directors of the Cyprus Equality Observatory. In addition, he is a member of the National Mechanism for Women's Rights, the Pancyprian Anti-narcotic League and the Cans for Kids association.
He was first elected MP in the 2006 parliamentary elections in the Lefkosia Electoral District with the Social Democrats-EDC Movement for the The Parliamentary Period. He was re-elected in the 2011 parliamentary election for the 1st Parliamentary Period. He did not claim re-election in the 2016 parliamentary election due to a ban on the party's statute.
As a Member of Parliament, he served as a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights and Equal Opportunities between Men and Women, the Parliamentary Committee on Labour and Social Security, the Parliamentary Committee on Monitoring Plans for the Development and Control of Public Expenditure, the Parliamentary Committee on the Environment and the Parliamentary Committee on Health. In addition, he was a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean.
