FNL Cup

History

The FNL Cup was a friendly football competition organized by the Football Federation of Russia for teams participating in the PFN Ligi, the second division of the Russian football championship. It was officially established in December 2011.

Organization and Format

The tournament was traditionally held abroad during the winter break, with countries like Cyprus and Turkey hosting the event. In some years, such as 2014 and 2015, the competition took place in Turkey instead of Cyprus. The teams participating in the FNL Cup were divided into two groups of four teams each, with the winners advancing to the finals.

Regulation

The first eight teams from the Russian Football League participated in the tournament. Each team played one game against every other team within their group. The winners of each group progressed to the final round.

Sponsorship and Cancellation

In 2019, a sponsorship agreement was signed with the OPM betting agency. However, in December 2020, the tournament was canceled as part of a larger decision.

Editions and Venues

The FNL Cup was held from 2012 to 2020. The competition's name varied depending on the sponsor; it was known as the "Olymp-Gong League" (Олимп-Кубок) for sponsorship purposes.
