This species is found in Albania, Algeria, Angola, Benin, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Great Britain (Northern Ireland), Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Greece (Egyptian Islands and Crete), Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt (Sinaic Peninsula), Equatorial Guinea, Western Sahara, Israel, Ireland, Spain (Balear Islands, Canary Islands and North African Territories of Spain), Italy (Sardinia and Sicily), Cameroon, Cyprus, Côte d'Ivoire, Liberia, Libya, Lebanon, Mauritania, Morocco, Nigeria, Portugal, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Syria, Slovenia, Togo, Tunisia, Turkey, France (Corcilia), Croatia and Montenegro.

It haunts the coasts and the sandy bottoms of the seas. It is found at a depth of 50 to 402 m, at a water temperature of 8,5 to 17.1 °C and a salinity of 35
