Early Life and Education

Sophocles Sophocleus was born on August 7, 1962. He studied law at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

Personal Life

He is married to Bright Sophocleus and has a son and a daughter.

Career

### Local Politics

Sophocleus was Provincial Secretary of EDEK Larnaca, member of the Political Office and vice-president of the party. He was elected Mayor of Upper Nicosia (also known as Upper Whites) in the 1991 municipal election. He was re-elected in the 1996 Municipal elections and the 2001 Municipal elections.

### National Politics

On June 13, 2006, he was appointed Minister of Justice and Public Order to the Government of Tassos Papadopoulos, a position in which he remained until February 29, 2008. He claimed election to the 2009 European Parliament elections with the EDP but was not elected.

### European Politics

Following the resignation of Kyriakos Mavronikolas, Sophocleus became a Member of the European Parliament in 2012, serving until 2014.
