Spain, officially the Kingdom of Spain (Spanish: Reino de España), is a sovereign state located in southwestern Europe on the Iberian Peninsula.

### Geography

The country's territory spans most of the Iberian Peninsula, sharing borders with Portugal, Andorra, and the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar. The majority of its land borders the Mediterranean Sea to the south and east, except for a short land border with Gibraltar. To the north and west, Spain is bordered by France and Portugal, respectively, while the Atlantic Ocean lies to the northwest.

In addition to the mainland, Spain's territory includes several islands:

* The Balearic Islands (including Mallorca and Ibiza) in the Mediterranean Sea
* The Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean, off the coast of Africa

Furthermore, Spain has two autonomous cities located beyond the Strait of Gibraltar: Ceuta and Melilla.

### Government and Politics

The form of government in Spain is a parliamentary hereditary monarchy. The country is divided into 17 autonomous communities, each with its own degree of autonomy.
