Sławomir Majak

Sławomir Majak (born 12 January 1969 in Gidle) is a former Polish football player and current coach.

Sporting Career

Majak played for several clubs, including Hannover 96 (1996) and Hansa Rostock (1997–2001), where he scored 15 goals in 108 Bundesliga games. One of his notable achievements was scoring the winning goal in the 3:2 victory of FC Hansa Rostock at VfL Bochum on 29 May 1999, which gave the Rostockers the last second-class preservation. This goal and the course of the game are today referred to as "the wonder of Bochum".

Club Career

Majak began playing football in the team "Start Gidle". In the 1987/88 season, he moved to Radomsko, from which he went to Łódź after the end of the season. He made his debut in Extraclass with this club and scored his first goal in the major leagues in the same season. A year later, Majak joined the second-league club "Iglopol", where he won promotion to the elite alongside future Polish national team players Jacek Zielinski and Jerzy Podbrozhny. He left Iglopol in autumn 1993, when the club dropped out of the major leagues.

Majak then played for the Swedish club Köping FF, but his stay was not successful. In spring 1996, he moved to Hannover 96, followed by a stint with Hansa Rostock from 1997 to 2001.

International Career

Majak played for the Polish national team and was named Footballer of the Year in Poland in 1997.

Coaching Career

After retiring as a player, Majak transitioned into coaching. He has managed several teams, including II liga side Siarka Tarnobrzeg.
