TUI Travel

TUI Travel PLC was a European tourism group formed by the tourism division of the German TUI AG and the British First Choice Holidays plc. The company, formerly listed on the London Stock Exchange, was listed on the FTSE 100. In mid-December 2014 TUI Travel PLC merged as a subsidiary with the parent company TUI AG.

History
TUI AG announced on 19. March 2007 a merger of its tourism division with the British First Choice Holidays. The merger to TUI Travel PLC was approved by the European Commission on 29 June 2007. First Choice Holidays shareholders approved the merger on July 25, 2007. The new shares of TUI Travel PLC were first traded on the London Stock Exchange on 3 September 2007. TUI Travel was fully included in the consolidated financial statements of TUI AG. First Choice Holidays was originally to be completely acquired by TUI AG, but since the capital was not sufficient for a complete takeover, TUI AG agreed with the owners of First Choice Holidays on the establishment of TUI Travel PLC, in which TUI AG held a 54 percent share and the owners of First Choice Holidays 46 percent.

The new TUI Travel was led by First Choice Chef Peter Long as Chief Executive Officer (CEO). TUI Chef Friedrich Joussen acted as Chairman and Chairman of the Supervisory Board.

On June 27, 2014, TUI AG announced its intention to merge with TUI Travel in the form of a share exchange. The shareholders of TUI Travel PLC received 0.399 shares of TUI AG per share held. The merger was completed on December 17, 2014.

TUI Travel was divided into regions, areas and divisions.

Regions
TUI Travel mainly had the following three regions:
TUI Central Europe (Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Russia and Ukraine)
TUI Northern Europe (United Kingdom, Ireland, Scandinavia)
TUI Western Europe (France, Belgium, Netherlands)

Areas
TUI Travel had the following areas:
Mainstream – Sales of air, accommodation and tourist services
Specialist Holidays – Country Specialists, Premium Travel and Lifedays
Activity – Yacht, Adventure and Adventure Holiday
Online Destination Services – Online Services

Divisions
TUI Travel had the following divisions:
Airlines
Tour operators
Travel agencies
Incoming agencies
Hotel management

TUI Airlines Airlines
The airlines were grouped under TUI Airlines. In addition to TUIfly in Germany, these included the British Thomson Airways (merger of First Choice Airways and Thomsonfly) and a further four smaller airlines. TUI Airlines comprises more than 150 aircraft.

In Central Europe, TUI Travel had several travel companies and brands:
