Tamas and Orinis Metropolia () – dioceses of the Cyprus Orthodox Church
History
After the arrival of Christianity in Cyprus, Tamassos became one of the first Greek Orthodox episcopal sees on the island. His first bishops were Saint Heraclidius and Saint Mnason. Tamassos fell into decline by the tenth century due to the depletion of copper mines, as a result of which his economy was destroyed. Over time, the ancient ancient city was abandoned, and several small settlements such as Polito and Episcopeio were formed in its place. Currently, the term Tamassos denotes an area in which, in addition to the mentioned settlements, there are also the villages of Psimalofu, Pera Orinis, Ergates, Campia, Analyontas and Capedes.
In 2007, a new diocese was formed in accordance with the new charter of the Cyprus Orthodox Church.
