The Tank Cavalry Regiment 11 Defenders of the National Honor () is a cavalry regiment of the Argentine Army (EA). It is based on the Army Garrison "Puerto Santa Cruz," Province of Santa Cruz. It depends on the XI Mechanized Brigade (), 3rd Army Division ().

Origin

It was created in 1826 by decree of President Bernardino Rivadavia under the name "Regiment 11 de Caballeria de Línea" to cover the borders against indigenous people during the Brazilian War.

Operational history

The regiment conducted the following campaigns:

It was highlighted in the following fighting:

Battle of Lomas Valentinas

After passing through countless destinations it was dissolved in 1958. In November 1980 it was reactivated and settled in Puerto Santa Cruz in 1981.

During the 1982 Malvinas war, a number of towns in southern Argentina were held.

In August 2011, its head, Lieutenant Colonel Carlos Ramón Aguilar, was established as head of the Argentine Task Force 38, to be deployed for six months to Cyprus under the mandate of the United Nations (UNFICYP).

Training

He usually performs his exercises on the great grounds of Patagonia, as was the "Roca" exercise in April 2000, along with the entire 11th Brigade and the presence of then-defense minister Ricardo López Murphy.

In March 2010, he intervened with his tanks in the "Operation Retrograde" exercise developed in Santa Cruz, with the presence of then-Minister of Defense Nilda Garré. He also participated in the "Bicentennial III" exercise carried out in September of that year by the XI Mechanised Brigade in the "General Adalid" field of instruction. In October, he collaborated with the 2010 national census in the most isolated sectors of his province.

At the end of 2011, the unit began to move part of its SK-105 endowment material to the Tank 13 Cavalry Regiment, located in General Pico, under an Army Material Redeployment Plan. The transfer of the vehicles was carried out by trucks from and from the "Pígué" Logistics Support Base, starting their trips from the "Comodoro Rivadavia" Logistics Support Base.
