Tatarstan Airlines
History
Tatarstan Airlines was a former Russian airline that operated as the national air carrier of the Republic of Tatarstan. The airline was created in 1999 on the basis of the former Kazan (reorganized into a joint-stock company in 1993) and the Nizhny Kamsk air squadrons of Aeroflot (appeared in the 1950s), as well as the Nizhny Kamsk Begishevo airport.
Operations
The airline's headquarters was located in Kazan, with its base airports being Kazan International Airport and Begishevo Airport. The full name of the airline is "Tatarstan Airlines". It operated until 2013.
Fleet
Initially, the airline's fleet consisted of Ilyushin Il-86 aircraft. However, in 2008, the airline began to transition to Boeing 737 aircraft, replacing the Il-86s.
Management and Ownership
In 2008, a number of changes took place within the airline. Begishevo Airport was withdrawn from the airline's operations and became an independent organization. The leadership of the airline changed, with G. G. Khairullin being appointed as the general director. Additionally, in 2008, the Bulgarian company Khimimport became a strategic investor, purchasing half of the shares of Kazan Airport and Tatarstan Airlines.
Closure
Tatarstan Airlines ceased operations in 2013, marking the end of its nearly 14-year history as a Russian airline.
