The first settlement in the area was established after the 1974 conflict. The construction of houses began with the labor union Türk-Sen, led by Necati Taşkın, who would later be named after in the region. However, the name "Selköy" is attributed to Necati Flood, the head of Türk-Sen, who started the settlement on January 12, 1983, following a traffic accident.
