Overview

The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) has a well-established television industry, with numerous public and private channels broadcasting to its population. The TRNC's television landscape is dominated by Turkish-language channels, reflecting the country's cultural and linguistic ties to Turkey.

History

BRT (Turkish: Bayrak Radyo Televizyon), also known as the "public broadcaster" of the TRNC, has a long history dating back to 1963 when it was established as a radio station. BRT began its television broadcasts in 1976, making it the oldest Turkish Cypriot TV channel.

Broadcasting

Most of the TV channels in Northern Cyprus broadcast via satellite, using Türksat's "Cyprus Packet" service. In addition to satellite broadcasting, some channels are also available through terrestrial antennas.
