Terence Ascott (born October 1947) is a British civil engineer, founder and CEO of SAT-7.
Life and work
Terence Ascott trained as a civil engineer at Middlesex University from 1968 to 1972, graduating with the Bachelor of Science in Civil and Structural Engineering (BSc) with the highest distinction. He studied at the American University of Beirut (AUB) and worked from 1973 to 1975 with the Christian aid organization Operation Mobilisation as production manager for Arabic literature in Beirut, Lebanon. During this time he founded the Arabic youth magazine “Magalla”. After that, Ascott was International Director of the “Middle East Media”, which he co-founded in 1975, before becoming Managing Director of the private television channel SAT-7, which he founded and is based in Nicosia, Cyprus, in January 1996. It was the first Arabic-speaking, Christian and satellite-based station to make it possible to reach households in the Middle East and North Africa without the usual state censorship of the mass media.
He is a member of the “Crofton Baptist Church” and the “World Association for Christian Communication” and on the advisory board of the “International Christian Media Commission”.
Terence Ascott is married to his wife Jacqueline. The couple has three children living in Nicosia, Cyprus.
Awards
In 2012, Ascott received an honorary doctorate as Doctor of Ministry (DMin) from Belhaven College for his contributions to the promotion of Christianity throughout the Middle East and North Africa.
