Teresa Polias (* 16). May 1990 in Darlinghurst, New South Wales, Australia is a paused Australian football international who plays in midfield. In January 2013 she won with Sydney FC the Grand Final for the Australian Championship, which could be repeated in 2019. In 2007, she was first used in the Australian national football team of women.
Career
Clubs
Born in a Sydney neighborhood, Polias began with the 2008 Central Coast Mariners women’s team in a northern suburb of Sydney. The team played for two years in the newly founded W-League, but then ceased playing for financial reasons. Polias then moved to Sydney FC. At the end of the points round, Sydney was in first place and then reached the Grand Final against Brisbane Roar, but lost this with 1:2. In the following season, both met in the semi-finals. Sydney led up to the 90th minute with 1-0, then Brisbane still managed the compensation and Sydney also lost Kyah Simon by a yellow-red card. In outnumber they survived the then the 30 minutes of extra time, but since it was then still 1:1, had to decide the penalty shooting. Polias and a teammate, as well as a player from Brisbane, failed as the only shooters and their teams and Sydney missed the Grand Final. Sydney then reached the Grand Final again in 2013, when she played every minute in every game, this time against Melbourne Victory and was able to win this time. A year later, Melbourne was able to retaliate in the semi-finals and deny Sydney the final again by a 3-2. And the following year was in the semi-final final, this time against Perth Glory. Only in 2019 could the final be won again, by a 4-2 victory against Perth Glory. She was the captain of her crew and did not miss a minute.
In August 2021, she announced that she would take a football break to start a family and decide in due course whether she wants to continue playing football.
National teams
On 4 August 2007, she was first used against Hong Kong in the national team. She was not nominated for the 2007 World Cup one month later. Until the Women’s Football Asian Championship 2014, for which she was then nominated again, she only came to another international match. In the championship, where Australia could not defend the title, she was only used in the second group game against Jordan.
In March 2015 she took part with Australia in the Cyprus Cup 2015, where she was in the 1-0 against the Netherlands, 3-0 against Finland and 6-2 in the game for 5th place against the Czech Republic in the starting eleven.
