Thalassa (band)
History
Thalassa was a Greek musical duo formed in 1998 by Giannīs Valvīs and Dionysia Karokī. The group was created exclusively to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 1998.
Career
The duo represented Greece at the Eurovision Song Contest 1998 with the song "Mia Krifi Evesthisia" (Μια κρυφή ευαισθησία), which they had proposed for the Greek selection. They won the national final on March 7, 1998, and subsequently participated in the Eurovision final held on May 9, 1998, in Birmingham, United Kingdom.
Controversy
After their victory in the national final, many artists claimed that the duo's win was a result of a secure environment. During the Eurovision final, Giannīs Valvīs had several fights with the show's director, which led to his expulsion from the compound and prohibition from participating in the presentation.
Performance at Eurovision
Thalassa finished 20th in the competition. Despite their controversy-filled experience, they were able to observe the rest of the show from their hotel room.
