XI Commonwealth Games

The XI Commonwealth Games, also known as the 1978 British Commonwealth Games, were held in Edmonton, Canada from August 3 to 12, 1978.

History

Edmonton was chosen as the host city after winning 36 votes in a vote held during the summer Olympics in Munich, Germany, leaving Leeds with 10 votes behind. This marked the first time that Edmonton had hosted the Commonwealth Games.
