The 2008 Eurovision was the 53th edition of the contest, which was hosted by Serbia. The semifinals were held on May 20 and May 22, and the great final was held on May 24 in the capital, Belgrade. Among the proposals was Ukraine, which reached the second place in Eurovision 2007. Another offer was Finland, a contest host last year. Greece also offered to host the contest. After a while, it was decided that Belgrade would remain the host of competition. The Serbian Broadcasting Authority has pledged to provide increased security for all visitors and competition participants. For example, in Albania, Croatia and Israel were kept.

Visual design
The Serbian Broadcasting Authority launched a contest aimed at finding the logo, theme and stage design of the 2008 contest. Finally, the theme of the contest was announced: "The Twins," which was composed of the location of the city of Belgrade, which prevails between two rivers - Sava and Danube. The selected logo was a solar key in blue and red ( Serbian flag colors) in the texture of Gosh colors, and designed by Boris Milkovich.
