The 5th of Dhu al-Qadah
5 Dhu al-Qadah or 5 Dhu al-Qadah al-Haram or Day 5 \ 11 (the fifth day of the eleventh month) is the 300th day (or the first after 300 if Ramadan is completed with 30 days, or the second after 300 if both Safar and Rajab and Jumada al-Akhirah and Sha'ban and Ramadan have 30 days) according to the Hijri Qamari calendar (Arabic). There remain 54 or 55 days for the end of the year.
Events
* 1101 AH - The surrender of the fortress of Benfesha to the Venetians after a 14-month resistance, and this fortress is considered the last fortress of the Ottoman state in the Peloponnese (Greece).
* 1241 AH - The Ottoman Sultan Mahmud II's forces were able to put an end to the rebellion of the Janissary forces and completely destroy them after they had been considered at some point a jewel of the Ottoman crown during its golden age.
* 1252 AH - The establishment of the first Ministry of Education in Egypt and the Arab world under the name "Diwan al-Madaris", which was headed by Mustafa Mukhtar Pasha, and he was one of the members of the first scientific mission sent by Muhammad Ali Pasha to France.
* 1254 AH - The British fleet led by "Hens" is able to occupy Aden to start a colonization that lasted for 137 years.
* 1343 AH - Reza Khan Pahlavi declares himself "Shah of Iran", becoming the first monarch of the Pahlavi dynasty in Iran.
* 1371 AH - King Farouk I of Egypt and Sudan abdicates the throne to his son Prince Ahmed Fuad, and appoints a Council of Regency with Prince Muhammad Abdel Moneim as its president, and leaves Egypt afterwards with his wife Queen Nariman and the rest of his family including the new king Ahmed Fuad, and this comes after days of the revolution against the monarchy.
* 1388 AH - Cairo celebrates its millennium. The opening of the first International Book Fair is considered the beginning of the celebrations. During a thousand years of its existence, Cairo has become the largest city in Africa by absorbing several neighboring cities. It also holds the lead in other fields, such as the number of mosques. Cairo is also the first city in the African continent where the construction of an underground metro began.
* 1389 AH - The end of the Biafran War in Nigeria with the defeat of the Republic of Biafra located eastward after one day of the escape of its founder Ojukwu.
* 1411 AH - The declaration of the independent republic of Northern Somalia, also known as Somaliland, but it has not received any international recognition, while it witnesses a higher level of security compared to other areas of Somalia.
* 1425 AH
+ One of the Islamic sites publishes an audio tape by Osama bin Laden praising the bombing of the American consulate in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
+ Israeli occupation forces launch an invasion operation on Khan Yunis south of Gaza Strip called "Al-Hadid al-Burtuqali", and destroy around 40 houses completely, and displace around 50 families with a total number of individuals exceeding 400.
+ The European Union agrees to hold accession talks with Turkey after about a year provided that Ankara signs an agreement granting Cyprus actual recognition before the start of negotiations. This decision was taken at the end of the EU summit held in Brussels, the capital of Belgium.
* 1436 AH - Four Palestinian passengers from Gaza are kidnapped in the city of Rafah north of Sinai, Egypt.
* 1437 AH - A suicide bombing occurs in the city of Quetta west of Pakistan, resulting in the deaths of at least 93 people and injuring more than 120 people.
* 1438 AH - The Supreme Court of Pakistan issues a decision excluding Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif from holding any public office in the country after his conviction in a corruption case.
* 1439 AH - The Israeli Knesset passes the Law of the Jewish State in Israel, which provides for several measures favorable to Jews, and strips Arabic language of its official status in Israel.
