The Fusiliers Mont-Royal

Les Fusiliers Mont-Royal (Fus MR or FMR) is a regiment of the Canadian Armed Forces Primary Reserve stationed in Montreal, Quebec. It is composed of volunteers working part-time called reservists. Several members of the Mount Royal Fusiliers have served and are still serving in various UN and NATO peacekeeping missions, including Cyprus, Haiti, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Afghanistan. In Canada, they also participated in the October crisis in 1970, the 1976 Olympic Summer Games, the 1990 Oka crisis, Operation "Recovery" during the ice storm in Montreal in January 1998, while even RMF members were among the affected, as well as Operation Lentus 17-03 during the floods that hit Quebec in May 2017.
Creation and various denominations
The Canadian Fighters Battalion, which was the only Francophone battalion in Montreal, was dissolved. On the 17th, the creation of the regiment was authorized and it became the new Francophone regiment of Montreal. It was first known as Mount Royal Rifles. In 1902, the name was officially translated into Carabiniers Mont-Royal. On the 17th, the regiment changed its name to the Fusiliers Mont-Royal.
History
North West Rebellion
The Fusiliers Mont-Royal troops accompanied Major-General Strange during the repression of the Northwest Rebellion in 1885.
Second Boer War
Troops were also sent to Africa during the Second Boer War (1899-1902). It is reported that the soldiers were on a boat and found themselves in the same place as the Boers while they were washing. The soldiers of the latter reportedly arrested all the Boers who were present without encountering any resistance.
First World War
When World War I began, the Mont-Royal riflemen joined other regiments and participated mainly in the French-Canadian, who was later transformed into the Royal Regiment.
Second World War
In 1939, when the United Kingdom entered the war against Germany, Canada also entered the war. Only volunteers were sent to the front in Europe. The Mont-Royal riflemen were mobilised on 1 January. After a stay in Valcartier, they went to Iceland on the Empress of Australia (July to July). She left for England on the 19th, and was transferred with The United Kingdom after 4 months in Iceland. The Mont-Royal riflemen then joined the Canadian. Until then, the Mount Royal riflemen trained. The members of the Mont-Royal riflemen participated in a commando operation in France, Operation Jubilee, which in fact corresponds to the raid on Dieppe.
