"The Ghetto Catania"

- CONTENT -
In Katania there was another Jewish community from the Roman era. Goto Cania was founded in 1235. The Jewish ghetto in Catalonia is divided into two main neighborhoods:

The first neighborhood was "Judeca suprana" or "Cipriana". It means that the name "Judeka Di Susso" is in Hebrew: the Supreme Jewish Quarter. "Judeka Di Susio" is also the ghetto called "Cipriana" which means it in Hebrew: Cyprus. The quarter known as "Cipriana" was among these streets: Chipna (Via della Cipriana), Dante Aligheri, a monastero dei Benedettini monastery, a Via Maura.

The second neighborhood was "Judeca suttana" or "Giudecca di sottoia". It means that the name "Judeka Sona" or "Judeka Di Soto" is in Hebrew: the lower Jewish Quarter. "Judeka Di Soto" is also the ghetto called "Pescheria" which means it in Hebrew: the fish market. The Quarter known as the "Pescheria" was among these streets: St. Agata Alle Sciare, a soundtrack (Pescheria), and a marano.

In the ghetto there were two ancient synagogues: the Great Synagogue called the Singag Maggiore and the small synagogue called the Sinagoga Minore. The small synagogue was in the Jewish hospital (ospedale degli ebrei) in Catalonia.

To this day, there is a street in Katania called Via Marano, which means in Hebrew: Anesare Street, in a Jewish Quarter known as the “properation” (Pescheria).

The Yudicello River is a 1.4-mile underground river flowing under the city of Castaneia and spilled into the port of Ancient Castaneia. On his way, he crosses two Jewish neighborhoods in Katania – Cypriana and Pescheria.
In Katania there is an ancient hope, from the Second Temple period, called the Pozzo di Gammazita.
