The Life of Leisure
Eläköööelämä
Background and Performance
"Eläköööelämä", translated into English as "Long Live Life", is a song composed by Petri Laaksonen and performed in Finnish by Sonja Lumme. The song represented Finland at the 1985 Eurovision Song Festival.
The song was performed second on the night of May 4, 1985, preceded by Ireland's Maria Christian with "Wait until the weekend comes" and followed by Cyprus' Lia Vissi with "To Katalava Arga".
Composition and Lyrics
The song is sung from the perspective of a woman who has "stayed in the park" at night with "a good friend" (possibly a lover or a future). She describes the scene and wants it to never end. Lumme also recorded the song in English, entitled "There is life on Earth".
Eurovision Song Festival 1985
In the competition, Finland was ranked among 19 participating countries. The representative of Ireland's song "Wait Until The Weekend Comes" and the representative of the Republic of Cyprus' song "To Katalava Arga" were ranked before and after Finland respectively.
Finland was succeeded as a representative at the Eurovision Song Festival by Kari Kuivalainen with the song "Never the End".
