"The Rollo Triangle"

The Rollo triangle is a modest geometric form created by cutting three circular arches, which is centered in equal triangle cascades and an equal radius along the triangle. The obvious geometric feature of this form is that the three arches that create it form a fixed latitude. The intuitive meaning of this feature is that while the triangle is rolled over a straight surface, its farthest side from the surface keeps a fixed height at any given moment.

There is evidence that the shape was still known during the Renaissance. The first to discover its permanent feature was Leonard Oyler. The form is named after the German machine engineer Franz Rollo who incorporated it in some of the pioneering mechanisms developed.

Building construction
