The Wastrel (Italian: Il relitto) is a 1961 Italian-Cypriot drama film directed by Michael Cacoyannis. It was one of the opening films at the 1961 Cannes Film Festival.

Production

The film was produced by Lux Film and Tiberia Film, with Angelo Ferrara serving as producer. The screenplay was written by Suso Cecchi D'Amico, Michael Cacoyannis, and Frederic Wakeman. Piero Portalupi handled the photography, while Alberto Gallitti was responsible for editing.

Release

The Wastrel was released in 1961 in black and white, with a runtime of 84 minutes. The film's music was composed by Angelo Francesco Lavagneno, and Arrigo Equini served as artistic director.
