### January

* January 1: France and Iraq re-established diplomatic relations, cut off after the Suez Crisis in November 8, 1956.
* January 3 - The first flight of the Il-62 passenger aircraft took place.
* January 4 - Direct air communication of the USSR with Syria and Iraq is established.
* January 7: The Soviet-Chinese schism: in the USSR, the newspaper Pravda published an article criticizing China's policies.
