Theletra

Theletra (Greek: Θελέτρα) is a village located in the Paphos District of Cyprus. It has two distinct areas: an old abandoned village at the bottom of a hill, and a new village situated at the top of the hill.

Geography

Theletra is situated approximately 3 kilometers east of Kathikas, at an elevation of 583 meters above sea level. The village is accessible via a road that connects to Polis Chrysochou, with a turn-off 500 meters before Stroumbi Village.

Population

According to the statistical service of the Republic of Cyprus in 2001, the village had 177 inhabitants. However, as of the latest available data, the population has increased to 269 residents, who reside primarily in the new village at the top of the hill.

History

The old village of Theletra was abandoned due to a massive earthquake that caused significant landslides and damage to the surrounding hills. Although the exact date of this event is not verified, it is estimated to have occurred around 40 years ago. As a result, the villagers relocated to the new village at the top of the hill.

Location

Theletra is situated in Paphos County, Cyprus, approximately two miles east of Katikas. It is part of the larger Paphos District and has a nearby locality called Katsarkes, which is located at an elevation of 657 meters above sea level.
