"Theodoros Papakonstantinou"
--- CONTENT ---
Theodore (Roulis) Papakonstantinou (Thessaloniki 1948 – Cyprus 1969) was a Greek composer and choir director. He is the enlightened creator of the excellent Children's Choir of Agia Triada Thessaloniki (with which he presented the Second Mass of the temple). Unfortunately he died prematurely from aneurysm rupture during his military service and was unable to enjoy the completion of his work. Grandson of the musician Theodoros Varveris, he enrolled 15 years at the Thessaloniki State Conservatory and within five years managed to ensure the appreciation of his professors (S. Michaelides, T. Pappas) and offer great services in the field of choral music, with the foundation (1967) and guidance of his "Dancedy". In this he contributed both his tenure in Byzantine music, next to his brother the protopasaltis Vassilis Papakonstantinou, and his close friendship with Antonis Kontogeorgiou, who then ran the Children's Choir H.M.O. of Thessaloniki. Among other things, he has written the "John of Chrysostom Mass" for 4 voice mixed choir (published in Thessaloniki) and successfully elaborated some religious works (such as the "136th psalm", the hymn "Christ is born", the "Egomias of M. Friday", the doctrine "Resurrection Day", etc.). In his songs: "The source of my village", etc.
